Heavy as I – Band Bio
Forged in the garages, bars, and backroads of Minneapolis, Heavy as I is a hard-hitting power trio blending the thunder of groove metal with the grit of southern rock, all wrapped in the grease-stained spirit of American muscle and motorcycle culture. Their music roars like a Harley at full throttle, built for speed, soul, and unapologetic volume.
Drawing heavy inspiration from bands like ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Gov’t Mule, Heavy as I delivers riff-driven rock that’s as heavy as it is hooky / equal parts stoner swagger and blue-collar grit.
Fronted by Andrew Oltmanns, a seasoned multi-instrumentalist and former member of Minneapolis metal staples Hex Vortices and For Blood, the band began as a one-man studio project. Andrew wrote and recorded the entirety of the debut album "Heavy Hauler", now streaming across all major platforms. The album captures the raw essence of Heavy as I’s sound: thick grooves, roaring guitars, and a love letter to American roads, rides, and rebellion.
Bassist Rob Parkos, a Twin Cities veteran from genre-bending acts like King Tuesday and Greyduck, brings a deep low end and stage-tested energy. On drums, Greg Brown powers the engine with the precision and fury of a seasoned Minneapolis metalhead, known for his work with Callous Soul and Outside the Murder.
Together, this three-piece turns every show into a high-octane ride... loud, dirty, and unmistakably real.
